About Joe Gervais

Joe & Susan Gervais

I am seeking to serve residents of Arlington, Manchester, Sandgate and Sunderland from the Bennington-4 District and Vermonters by bringing honest, practical leadership to the Vermont House of Representatives. The past few years have amplified the crisis our republic is facing, with citizens losing trust in government, schools, healthcare and media. I took an oath to protect and defend the constitution and I bring a servant’s heart along with honesty, transparency and the leadership skills necessary to make Vermont and America great again.

I was born in Providence, Rhode Island the eldest of four siblings, and grew up in Southern New England, graduating from RHAM High School in Hebron, Connecticut. I joined the Army Reserves directly from high school, and became a commissioned officer at age 19, serving 10 years in the Army Reserves and Army National Guard. I earned an undergraduate degree in Computer Science and a Masters of Business Administration.

My primary career spanned thirty years in information technology, sales and marketing. As a senior director of product management, I’ve managed complex, multi-year development projects with budgets of up to one-hundred-million dollars and hundreds of developers. I hold several US patents, have written numerous technical articles and conducted hundreds of press interviews.

In 2013 my wife Susan, a native of Arlington, Vermont, and I relocated from California to Vermont so we could care for her mom during the last eight years of her life, providing a beautiful finish for Gladys surrounded by her children in the midst of the covid lockdowns.

From 2015-2022, I served Christians around the world, helping equip them to translate God’s Word into their native language, and working to equip church leaders with solid Biblical and theological training. I authored the book Pacific Saints: Their Battles for Eternity. I have also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and served on the Board of Trustees of a non-profit with revenue of over forty million dollars, including as a member of the executive committee as well as the treasurer. While I have travelled to dozens of countries, Vermont is home.

The past three years I’ve run a small business custom milling lumber for customers in Bennington County. I work in collaboration with several family members who run tree services, allowing me to trace the lumber from the forest to the end customers.

We have four sons, two daughters-in-law, three grandchildren, and are soon expecting our third great-grandchild. In my spare time, I enjoy raising chickens, timber framing, furniture building, hunting, sugaring, and driving the back roads in my vintage sports car.
